Research Attorney Patricia (Trish) Sifka
B.S. Criminal Justice, Niagara University, Niagara, NY, 1984. J.D., California Western School of Law, San Diego, California, 1988. Member, California Bar.
During law school, Trish participated in the Phillip Jessup International Moot Court Competition and was a member of the Appellate Advocacy Board. After practicing in San Diego in criminal defense and general civil litigation, Trish joined the Air Force as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate (JAG). While in the military, Trish worked in various areas: federal labor law, claims, FOIA requests, government contracts, legal national security issues, immigration matters, base operations questions, general federal civil litigation and family law matters for military members and their families. In addition to prosecuting several courts-martials, Trish managed a federal magistrate program where she prosecuted misdemeanors committed by civilians on base. As part of a base family maltreatment board, Trish has also worked on family abuse cases and negotiated a base’s first Memorandum of Understanding with local authorities for coordinating allegations.
Since leaving the military, Trish started volunteering with the legislative team for the Central Virginia Chapter of the Military Officers Association (CVC/MOAA). In advocating for veterans, military members and their families, Trish has been honored to work with federal, state and local officials on various legislative matters of interest. Since joining NLRG, Trish has worked on projects in a variety of areas.
Trish has also homeschooled her three children, including one with special needs. Besides teaching Sunday school classes and participating in scouting activities over the years, Trish taught a debate class at a homeschool co-op. Trish loved teaching, especially about the Constitution, and in civics and faith areas. When Trish is not at NLRG (or volunteering for MOAA), Trish takes her dog for walks, reads, spends time with her now grown children and friends, goes to see movies and plays (especially musicals and Shakespeare), listens to music, and listens to podcasts on faith, law, and national and foreign affairs. She is also involved with her church as a Life-Professed Lay Dominican.
