Colorado Legal Research Services
The National Legal Research Group founded the legal research industry in 1969 with the goal of providing high quality legal research, writing, and analysis to licensed attorneys in all forms of practice. That remains our goal today, over 55 years later. We do research and writing for you, so you can focus on other areas of your practice---or your life.
This is our Colorado landing page. We work regularly in Colorado; over 430 Colorado attorneys have used our services on over 770 cases. Our general home page is here.
Our Attorneys
NLRG employs over 25 research attorneys, each specializing in one or more areas of law. Many are graduates of top U.S. law schools, and have years of experience doing research and writing for NLRG clients.
We assign cases by area of law, not by state. If you have a Colorado criminal law case, for example, you will get a better product from an attorney with nationwide experience in criminal law than from an attorney with expertise in Colorado real estate law. That giving been said, here are the NLRG attorneys who have done the most Colorado cases over the past few years:
Anne Hemenway
B.A., Harvard University, 1979, Cum Laude. J.D., Case Western Reserve University School of Law, 1985. Member, New Mexico Bar. Anne worked as a legislative assistant for former Senator Birch Bayh and former Senator Joe Tydings in Washington, D.C. Upon graduating from law school, she practiced commercial law for five years before joining NLRG. Full bio here.
Lee Dunham
Text: B.A., Washington & Lee University. J.D, University of Virginia School of Law. Member, Virginia Bar. Lee served as a clerk in Virginia Beach, then spent a number of years in private practice at firms in Charlottesville, Virginia and Denver, Colorado, before joining NLRG. Full bio here
Robert Westendorf
B.A., Rutgers University. J.D., Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University. Member, New Jersey bar. When not working, Robert enjoys taking walks, watching movies and sports (especially football and golf), and reading books from a variety of different genres, including fiction, sports, politics, and theology. Our Products
NLRG can prepare many different types of products to aid the practicing attorney.
Objective Memos. Our most common product is a memorandum of law. Our objective memos can be used to help you understand the law which applies to a given fact pattern, and to help you understand your client's objective chances of success. We do not pull punches in our objective products---we will give a realistic assessment for your chances for success.
Trial Briefs. Our advocacy memos argue your position. They can easily be used as a motion brief or trial brief. These product focus on convincing the reader to accept your position. They are useful not only in convincing judges to rule in your favor, but also sometimes in convincing opposing counsel to adopt a reasonable settlement position.
Humans, not AI. All of our memos are written by real human attorneys, not by AI. The attorney who wrote your product is available to discuss the case by telephone or email. We cite legal authority---cases, statutes, regulations---and sometimes leading treatises as well.
Summary Memos. Our full memos discuss the issues in depth, in a manner similar to a court opinion or well-written trial brief. We can also prepare what we call a summary memo, which is a shorter written product with less depth of discussion.
Appellate Briefs. When the case is on appeal, we can prepare a draft appellate brief. Our appellate briefs are signature-ready; if you like the brief, all you have to do is sign and submit it. You are, of course, free to make changes or even just add your personal touch to any product we write.
We have written appellate briefs to the Colorado Court of Appeals, the Colorado Supreme Court, the federal Circuit Courts, and even to the United States Supreme Court. We can draft reply brief as well as opening briefs.
Pleadings, Motions, and Discovery. If the case is at an early stage, we can draft pleadings and discovery requests. We can draft motions, oppositions to motions, and briefa in support of either.
Telephone or Email Report. Where time is short, we can give you the substance of our longer products in the form of a telephone or email report.
Our Fees
Our billing rate is normally $190 per hour. We charge a higher rate if you need a product within 5 full working days or less. Our normal turnaround time is 2-4 weeks.
For full information about our billing rates, see here.
We give you a budget estimate before we start work, and we never exceed it without your permission. You have complete control over the amount of cost you incur.
